first success

Instead of studying like the rest of the O Level students,
I was baking cookies!!! xD
Cause I saw the recipe and it looks pretty damn easy..

Needed ingredients and cooking utensils :

Flour, milk, egg yolk, vanilla oil, baking soda, butter, cocoa powder, icing sugar, salt

mixer,measuring cup, multi-spoons, sifter
Preheat the oven
I know it looks so ancient but it who cares if it still works

Then I dump all the needed ingredients into this big bowl and mix it all up
Tip : too wet?? add more cocoa powder or icing sugar or work in an air conditioned room

After all the mixing, flatten it with a rolling pin.

and use your desired cookie cutter

(I didn't have much choice - tree,bell,man)

cover the tray with aluminium foil
lazy to wash ba and june looks like she wants some xD

then just pop them into the oven for 10-20 minutes

and ta-daaa~

19 bells

17 circular ones

14 trees

1 man

total = 51 cookies

=0 does that say oreo???

I bet you're wonderin why all trees and bells and cicular ones.
I did try to make a 'gingerbread' man though...

and making them definitely has advantages

*snicker* booobies~ =p

but then this always happen

too fragile ba

so anyone want some?? =D

I assure you its edible

*cough* *cough*

Brunch @ Empire

I went to have brunch with my parents.
Fortunately two meals are free and we just need to pay for one
its quite an expensive buffet at BN$40 plus 10% service tax.

It's a very large area where you need to go down
two flight?? of escalators to get to the Atrium Cafe

At your table, you get to have a spectacular view looking out the large windows of
the pool and beaches of the Empire Hotel
(seems more like a resort than a hotel)

2 choices of appetizer

greens(fresh vegetables) and sushi

of course I chose sushi
It was extremely fresh

I've always watched my brother eating
oysters
So today is my first time trying
It was quite an interesting experience and takes a while to get used to
(just like raw salmon)

I proceeded with some Chicken Herbal soup
with some
bread pieces
spring onions
fried,dried onions
(I don't know why blogspot did not rotate the picture for me)

accompanied by chicken cubes and yellow bell pepper on a skewer
with sweet chilli sauce
in a wine glass

This I would have to say didn't taste as good as I expected
Is it octopus?? Not sure.

My main course
baked chicken pasta
grilled lamb in black paper sauce
veggies in tortilla wrap
pouched potato
chicken with cranbarry sauce
khailand
(again blogspot didnt upload the picture right for me)

I had some mini cakes for desert
sponge cake with raspberries
pandan with black berries
sprinkled golden dust on the chocolate

I was surprised to see an ice maker there
fortunately it wasnt loud
I forgot that you were supppose to
put the ingredients first THEN the ice
cendol
grass jelly
corn
ideal milk
red syrup

And what dessert is complete without some ice cream??
yam ice cream
chocolate syrup
rainbow sprinkles
Total meal time : 1 hour and 30 mins

Midnight Munchies

AOL Coach Carolyn O'Neil says, "The right midnight snack can actually be good for you."

Ahhh~ music to my ears....

Hydrate Before All Else

Before you raid the refrigerator, make sure that hunger is really what's behind your mania to munch. "Dehydration is often mistaken for hunger," says Stella Metsovas. "Make sure to drink at least two cups of water before consuming any snack." Afterwards, you may be able to return to bed completely satisfied without eating a thing.

Eat like a Bunny

If you're in the mood for something yummy, celery or carrot sticks dipped in hummus are healthy and high in fiber. These crispy treats will also fill you up quickly due to their high water content. And with only a dab of hummus on each stick, you need not worry about consuming too many calories.
(Recipe at the end of post)

Embrace Carbs

Insomniacs take note: Starchy carbs can help you drift into a peaceful slumber.
Carbs with a high glycemic index, such as steamed rice, a baked potato or whole wheat toasted English muffin, may hasten sleep by quickly raising your blood sugar. Research also suggests that starchy carbs eaten before bedtime may also raise blood levels of tryptophan, an amino acid, and the neurotransmitter serotonin, sleep aids. With your mind and belly at rest, you'll be able to quit tossing and wake up refreshed for the next morning.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

If you've got a penchant for all-things-sweet, the light of the moon may find you reaching into the cookie jar for some sugary relief. Discounting chocolate (because it contains caffeine), O'Neil suggests going for dried fruits such as prunes. "Their natural sweetness will tame your bedtime sweet tooth and the fiber, potassium, and magnesium will gently aid your digestive health."

Go Nuts

Did you know that those little unsalted almonds offer huge rewards? This nutty snack is full of magnesium and B vitamins, both which help promote serotonin -- the relaxing neurotransmitter -- production. Not only will you cut stress, but you won't stress over the calories. Twenty-two whole almonds only equals about 100 calories.

Act like a Kid

Another liquid snack option is a glass of non-fat milk. "A glass of milk can help you sleep better because of the calcium content -- which relaxes muscles -- and increases the amount of tryptophan in the blood, which helps promote sleepiness," says O'Neil. For a feeling of nostalgia, drink a glass of warm milk, just like your mom and dad gave you before bedtime.

Pinch of Protein

Foods containing protein are great filler-uppers. Calorie-for-calorie, protein makes a person feel more full than carbohydrates or fats. Plus, researchers report that consuming nearly a third of daily calories as lean protein revs a person's metabolism during sleep. Lean turkey, low-fat cheese or even an egg white omelet can be satisfying.

Bad Choice #1: High Fat

"Certain foods are really bad choices at midnight," according to O'Neil, pointing to "anything containing sugar, caffeine and a high fat content." It's not the speed or calories, necessarily. It's their ability to cause indigestion. While we're on the topic, stay clear of fried or too- spicy treats.

Bad Choice #2: Sugary Treats

If you're having issues dozing off, you may be suffering from elevated levels of stress hormones called cortisol. "Your body will naturally crave quick-energy foods, like cookies, cereal and snack bars" says Metasovas. "Stay away from these foods at all costs." Consuming these turbo snacks will push your levels of cortisol through the roof, which could keep you tossing and turning until sunrise.
Bad Choice #3: High Energy Drinks
Coffee and energy drinks may be tempting when you have a deadline to meet, but it's best to steer clear of these jitter-bugs when there are healthier options. Surprisingly, a salad of dark greens or strawberries and oranges may give you the energy you need to persevere through the night. Their complex carbs provide a slower, steady release of energy. Plus, they're full of folate, which is good for the brain.

Happy Mooncake Festival

Sadly, tonight is the first time that I don't see the moon. When we were n our way to May Fang Restaurant, I asked "isn't it weird that it always never rains on Zhong Qiu Jie(moon cake festival)??"
Hoooo boy..me and my big mouth. Now its raining.

The most kek dao thing is when we were on the way home, I asked my dad if he saw the moon yet cause I can't find it. He said no but he sees a very big star. I asked where and he was pointing at the neon star on a shop called Happy Star. KEK DAO MAN!!

What's this celebration about??
  • In the chinese calender, every middle of the eigth month, it is when the moon is the largest, round-est and brightest
  • In vietnam, its about the Moon Genie of some sort

But here's the story I grew up listening to..

Two people(husband & wife) from heaven were sent down to earth. The man worked hard daily and the woman just stays at home cleaning the house and cooking for the husband.

They were sick of this life and wanted to return back to heaven. So the man went to look for people who may help them. A stranger gave them 2 pills. The stranger instructed them that only one person could eat one.The man reuturned home and showed the pills to his wife. The man told the wife to wait for him after work the next day to eat the pills.

The wife then waited and waited for his husband to come home. It was already very late. She couldn't wait any longer. She thought that eating both the pills would guarantee her return to heaven. When she ate it, she flew up into the sky but passed heaven and reached till the moon.

The moon was deserted and there was no one who could help her. So all she did was look down on earth where her husband is with tears in her eyes.

So yea..this is to celebrate the sorrow of the lonely wife.

I'm not sure if I got the story right though but I know it was something like that.
