We've been learning about making Narrative composition.
First we cover the basis of what needs to be in it then watched a video from Seconds from Disaster called Fire in the Tunnel.
just click on the video and view the rest of it
The main idea is that to make a story interesting, you need problems and not only that,
you need obstacles.
For this scary and very true story, the problem was,
being trapped inside a burning train inside a tunnel in a mountain.
For this scary and very true story, the problem was,
being trapped inside a burning train inside a tunnel in a mountain.
To add to the problem...
- the train has no smoke alarm.
- there is no cellphone signal in the tunnel
- the train doesn't continue but stops in the middle on the tunnel
- there is no emergency door release
- windows were made of shock proof glass
- after breaking the window, there was another pane of shock proof glass
- the control centre asks whats wrong with the train and by the time the problem was realized, the intercom dies.
- On escaping, they had to walk down steel escape stairs while wearing ski boots which were made of plastic (they melt if it hasnt hit your scalp yet)
- There was the risk that the fire would burn the cable sending the train downwards and crashing into the control centre and those that are escaping
In the end, I think 155 or 154 people died in the whole ordeal and only 12 escaped.
And the cause of the fire was all because of an old heater and oil brakes in the cable.

So, we've been given the weirdest of weird assignment.
It a weird but interesting way of training our imaginations for writing compositions.
We have to make our own individual Board Game coming up with your own theme (crisis situation like lost in the jungle/trapped on a mountain) and create a story line on the path like
'You got stuck in a mud puddle.Go back one space'

and we had to create Character cards and Shock Twist card(yes, like monopoly)
-
Character cards is where therer are 50% good and bad traits like:
-
'You have a short temper and
punched your friend for
making a simple suggestion.
Go back 2 spaces'
punched your friend for
making a simple suggestion.
Go back 2 spaces'
or
'You have great leadership skills and
kept everyone in the group together.
Go forward 3 spaces'
-

Go forward 3 spaces'
-
Shock Twist cards are always near the end where there's a twist like:
-
'You are the Cartoon character from Warner Bros.
Why didn't you just sprout your wings and fly!
Go back 5 spaces'
This is all a dream. Wake up fool!
Go to Finish.'
-

or
'You are actually sleeping under a tree right now.
This is all a dream. Wake up fool!
Go to Finish.'
-
I'm thinking about doing a theme called Lost on the Road.
-
-
Scenario: You and your friends decide to go to Florida for Springbreak but you accidentally drove off course and got lost.
-
I'm still working on the path and I have one shock twist card that I really like,

I'm still working on the path and I have one shock twist card that I really like,
'While your friends were sleeping,
you picked up a hitch-hiker who turns out to be a serial killer.
Everyone was killed but you escaped. Go to Finish!'
you picked up a hitch-hiker who turns out to be a serial killer.
Everyone was killed but you escaped. Go to Finish!'
so whoever picks up that card forces everyone to 'die' and you become the immediate winner xD so cheating.i know.hahaha.
