you get used to it

I've learnt something new in psychology class about getting over a fear. By moving your fear(eg. a spider) centimetre by centimetre, then inch by inch and then by feet over a certain number of days, you get used to the fear and numb to the feeling of fear that you stop feeling scared.

My heart has been broken countless times and now I'm worried. What if I'm not scared to get my heart broken anymore. Or if its possible, my heart broke so many times that it has turned to dust.
Without fear, I won't fight for the love of a person because I'll just say to myself,

"He's just going to break my heart anyway, 
so WHY TRY?"
