Sadly, tonight is the first time that I don't see the moon. When we were n our way to May Fang Restaurant, I asked "isn't it weird that it always never rains on Zhong Qiu Jie(moon cake festival)??"Hoooo boy..me and my big mouth. Now its raining.
The most kek dao thing is when we were on the way home, I asked my dad if he saw the moon yet cause I can't find it. He said no but he sees a very big star. I asked where and he was pointing at the neon star on a shop called Happy Star. KEK DAO MAN!!
What's this celebration about??
- In the chinese calender, every middle of the eigth month, it is when the moon is the largest, round-est and brightest
- In vietnam, its about the Moon Genie of some sort
But here's the story I grew up listening to..
Two people(husband & wife) from heaven were sent down to earth. The man worked hard daily and the woman just stays at home cleaning the house and cooking for the husband.
They were sick of this life and wanted to return back to heaven. So the man went to look for people who may help them. A stranger gave them 2 pills. The stranger instructed them that only one person could eat one.The man reuturned home and showed the pills to his wife. The man told the wife to wait for him after work the next day to eat the pills.
The wife then waited and waited for his husband to come home. It was already very late. She couldn't wait any longer. She thought that eating both the pills would guarantee her return to heaven. When she ate it, she flew up into the sky but passed heaven and reached till the moon.
The moon was deserted and there was no one who could help her. So all she did was look down on earth where her husband is with tears in her eyes.
So yea..this is to celebrate the sorrow of the lonely wife.
I'm not sure if I got the story right though but I know it was something like that.
